EN 17460

Still bonding under DIN 6701?

EN 17460 has replaced DIN 6701 as the basis for operational certification in railway vehicle construction. Since October 2025, certification is only carried out under the new standard - new certificates under DIN 6701 no longer exist.

Who it affects

Every railway supplier and maintenance provider with load-bearing adhesive bonds: bonding supervision, production, quality assurance, purchasing and project management. Anyone still certified under DIN 6701 must transition - no new certificates are issued under it any more.

What changes

Classification now uses classes A1, A2, A3 and Z instead of the previous system. Bonding supervision is also subject to a deputy requirement: if no equivalent deputy is appointed, no bonding-related decisions may be made in their absence.

What needs to be done

Update processes, records and personnel training to EN 17460. Since October 2025, certification is carried out exclusively by DAkkS-accredited bodies, no longer under the supervision of the Federal Railway Authority.

Our course for this

NormProof is preparing an online course on EN 17460: video chapters, documented knowledge checks and evidence per participant - the same procedure as the DIN 2303 course. Your bonding supervisor is responsible for the training; NormProof provides the tool. Register now, and we will contact you at launch.
